On Holidays-
Highlander student: What are you going to be for Halloween? It is almost coming.
Profesa student: Where and when please?
Highlander: October 31, everywhere.
Profesa: So tell me, what is Halloween about?
Highlander: Scary stuff, we dress up and houses get decorated.
Profesa: Is it for the whole world? How do I celebrate?
Highlander: Well you decorate your house and dress up scary like a vampire and go house to house and get candy.
Profesa: Really, will people not be scared?
Highlander: No they won’t it is fake. You get candy.
Profesa: So it is full of fun, right. I wish I were there to witness it in you country. What do I do with the candy I get?
Highlander: You eat the candy. Try to put on a mask and look red like blood. Like a ghost or devil. I will be a scary stalker.
Profesa: So will we be able to see how you were dressed?
Highlander: MAYBE.
On religion -
Profesa: I am a muslim.
Highlander: What is a muslim. Can you explain to me?
Profesa: They go to the mosque and pray fast.
Highlander: Oh, I know what that is. I love to pray.
Profesa: OK. I pray 5 times a day.
Highlander: Why- do you have to?
Profesa: Yes it is good.
Highlander: Oh I know. I like to pray so God can take care of everyone in my family and friends like you.
Currently the Highlander students are creating power point presentations about themselves to share with their new friends in Ghana. The students in Ghana will be creating their own personal power points and sending them back. This sharing of culture and information is also a great way for both groups to improve their computer skills and develop a stronger ability to communicate via the web.
Look for more posts coming soon.
